Flatbed scanners:

allow you to scan transparencies like negatives and slides. There
are many price ranges and qualities out there. ($100-$300)
Film scanners
are specifically for slides and film. ($150-$800)
Digital Cameras:

used to take pictures 1-3 feet away (documents, other pictures,
etc.)
